Overview

In April 2016, Southwest Jiaotong University and Georgia State University (GSU) signed the Revised Agreement for Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education in Bio-Engineering Programmes and resumed the enrollment. In December 2017, Southwest Jiaotong University and GSU signed the enhanced co-operation agreement, aiming to expand the enrollment from 30 to 60 people, which will further improve the project scope and system. Currently, there are total 53 students from Sino-US Class of 2016 and 2017. Meantime, our school recruited a Russian undergraduate student in this year, making a breakthrough. Besides, 3 undergraduate students went to study abroad (excluding the students from Sino-US Class of 2013 and 2014, which cooperated with GUS) and 12 American students came to our school to attend the study tour. Otherwise, 6 foreign teachers come to our school to give lectures.

The School, in collaboration with Georgia State University, launched the Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Program for Graduate Students (Dual Master Degrees 1+2 Joint Education Program). 2 students of the first cohort admitted for the cooperative programmes studied in America, while 4 foreign graduate students have come to study at the premise of the School. Bilingual teaching is prevalent in graduate courses of the School of Life Science and Engineering.

Regarding other foreign cooperation and exchanges, over 20 InnoSpring seminars given by famous experts have been organized in this year, including Sen-Fang Sui, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, from School of Life Sciences Tsinghua University, Professor Wei-ping Tang, a director of Medicinal Chemistry Center of School of Pharmacy University of Wisconsin, Assistant Professor Maged Henary from Georgia State University, et.al. Besides, our school continued to carry out in-depth cooperation with several foreign honorary professors, including Professor Thomas Silhavy, who is a member of National Academy of Sciences, currently working as professor at Princeton University of the United States, Professor Jean Chen Shih, who is a member of Academia Sinica, currently working in University of Southern California and Professor Robert K. Yu, who is also a member of Academia Sinica, currently working in Augusta State University. Furthermore, the School applied for a number of Foreign Expert Introduction Projects by State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China. Additionally, several academic staff of the School were invited to attend various international conferences and many of staff have been employed as reviewers for international journals.
